Liebert NX-60 Hz

Liebert NX Now Offers A Better Alternative For Modularity

Overview

Liebert has announced the introduction of 1+N capability for its Liebert NX UPS system, giving you a stronger choice in competitive situations. This offering now provides you with the means of paralleling NX units for added capacity as well as redundancy - and gives you yet another advantage when going up against competitive systems promoting modularity.

The Liebert NX is a medium-sized power system that is ideal for a number of critical applications including:

- Server rooms and mid-sized data centers
- Network components including critical routers and switches
- Telecommunication (fixed, WiLL and mobile) billing and reporting systems
- Networks (LAN, MAN and WAN), InfoCom and WiFi hot spots
- Industrial process and motion automation for mid-sized plants
- Medical diagnostic/imaging equipment

The Liebert NX incorporates a number of exceptional technical features that make it the best value in high availability power protection on the market today:

- Wider input voltage window and frequency tolerances
- Handling 100% nonlinear loads with 3:1 crest factor, as well as 100% unbalanced loading
- An advanced IGBT-based power factor corrected rectifier
- Advanced inverter control technology
- Fully digital control technology

This offering now provides you with the means of paralleling NX units for added capacity as well as redundancy - and gives you yet another advantage when going up against competitive systems promoting modularity.

This multi-module UPS system is comprised of two to four single unit NX UPS modules to create a 1+N system where the units operate together as a single system. The connected equipment is equally shared between any paralleled UPS.

For example, you can parallel four 30 kVA NX units to create a 90 kVA redundant system or three 30 kVA units for 60 kVA redundancy. The recommended limitation of paralleling is four modules to maintain system availability greater than that of a single module unit.

Our method of paralleling is far more reliable than the competition's approach, as they utilize up to nine modules for an 80 kVA redundant system that uses a common battery system made up of multiple parallel strings of 5 year life VRLA batteries. At that level of modularity, critical bus availability drops significantly - an 8+1 system will be down 16% more often than a 3+1 configuration and will require service attention more often than that.

Because the design voltage of the NX is 208/120V 4W+G input and output, there are several different types of paralleling cabinets that will be offered to provide a solution for any input voltage or number of wires available at the customer's facility. Just one paralleling cabinet, however, is required for each system.

The type of cabinet provided should be based upon the final customer configuration to allow them to easily adapt their system. The matching paralleling cabinets will either be 27" wide or 59" wide, depending upon configuration type.

These stand-alone cabinets are floor mounted and can be located away from or adjacent to the UPS units. Their appearance will be similar to the UPS and other matching ancillary cabinets, such as battery and maintenance bypass cabinets. An optional Slim Line distribution cabinet can also be mounted to the paralleling cabinets to provide a distribution panelboard.
There are many system configurations, such as 1+1, 2+1, 3+1, 1+2, 2+2 or even the possibility of having no redundant units such as 2+0, 3+0 and 4+0. Based on the inquires we've received so far, we expect the majority of these systems to be either a 60 kVA redundant using 3 x 30 kVA or 90 kVA redundant using 4 x 30 kVA modules.

Existing NX units that you have sold to your customers will require a hardware addition and firmware upgrade to be compatible with the requirements of a multi-module system. These upgrades will be performed by Liebert Global Services.

Availability for this configuration is December 2005-January 2006. Additional information will be available at that time.
