Imation DataGuard rf™

Overview

The DataGuard rf Scan Station uses RFID technology to track the movement of cartridges. The station comprises a read/write scanner, antenna pad, RS-232 cable and power cable. To operate, simply connect to a host computer, place an RFID-enabled cartridge, either individually or within a transport case, on the antenna pad and activate the scanner. As they are scanned, cartridges are automatically logged into a tracking database that is linked to the customer's tape management system.

The antenna pad is used to scan the RFID tags on non-metallic storage cases or individual cartridges, or to initialize an RFID tag on one cartridge at a time. A 36" (0.9 m) long RFID antenna cable is built into the top of the antenna pad.

For an optimal scan, open the antenna pad and place an individual cartridge or case filled with up to 20 cartridges on the pad. An outline of a case is molded into the antenna pad to act as a placement guide for cartridges or cases. The Scan Station can also read cases, cartridges and trays in the closed position. Scanning this way is acceptable but please note the open method is optimum.
Foot Switch Accessory

For your convenience, the DataGuard rf Tape Tracking System is available with a foot switch accessory and 5-meter long cable. Stepping on the foot switch is a faster way to start the scanning or initialization process than repeatedly stepping away from the scan station to reach the keyboard on the host computer. The software polls the foot switch when the appropriate screen appears so it is not necessary for the screen cursor to be on either the scan button or the initialization button in order to activate the foot switch.

The foot switch is a USB HID-compliant device with a built-in HID driver. It is compliant with Windows 98SE or later operating systems, and connects via a USB cable to the host computer.
